چکیده

Duckworth, Donna H. (Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md.), and Maurice J. Bessman. Assay for the killing properties of T2 bacteriophage and their "ghosts." J. Bacteriol. 90:724-728. 1965.-A procedure for the assay of bacteriophage and their "ghosts" which is based on their ability to kill cells is described. The method is derived from the well-known ability of phage and ghosts to prevent the induction of beta-galactosidase. Conditions are described whereby a direct relationship is found between the decrease in beta-galactosidase and the number of phage or ghosts present during the induction period. The number of phage measured by this method was found to be identical with the number of plaque-forming units found in a fresh lysate. The method has been used to follow the fate of ghosts under several conditions and to measure killer (but nonviable) particles in various preparations of phage.

T H E Protein Coats or "ghosts" of Coli Phage T2 Ii. the Biological Func~ons* by Roger M. Herriott and James L. Barlow$,§

Phage coats or ghosts, composed entirely of protein, appear to be responsible for protecting the phage nucleic acid from degradation by factors in the surrounding medium; attachment of the virus to its susceptible host; and delivering the nucleic acid to the interior of the cell. In addition, the ghosts have a number of biological actions which resemble similar actions of the patent phage. Thus...

The Protein Coats or "ghosts" of Coliphage T2

A method of preparing the protein coats or ghosts of phage T2 is described along with proof that the lytic action is a property of the ghost. An assay based on the lytic action toward host cells has been developed which permits a rapid evaluation of the number of ghosts with a reliability of +/-15 per cent. The antigenic and certain physicochemical properties of the ghost have been determined.

Evaluation of Specific Bacteriophage Against Salmonella infantis and Its Antibacterial Effects Compared to Ciprofloxacin in In Vitro Conditions

Background and Objective: Phage therapy could be used as an alternative method to antibiotic treatments. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial activities of isolated lytic bacteriophage against ciprofloxacin-resistant strain of Salmonella infanits in vitro conditions. Materials and Methods: The standard strain of Salmonella infantis  and its specific bacteriophage was iso...

طراحی و ساخت نانو زیست ذرات فاژی نوترکیب به عنوان کاندیدای حامل واکسن ژنی- خوراکی

Background and Objective : Bacteriophage vectors recently have been considered as a gene transfer and vaccine delivery vehicles chiefly due to their low cost, safety, and physical stability. Since, little is known about phage mediated gene transfer in mammalian hosts, A group of invitro experiments were performed to ascertain gene transfercapability of these vehicles .   Materials and Methods...
